World Earth Day 2020
First celebrated in 1970, World Earth Day is a time to reflect on the impact we are having on the planet’s environment, as well as spearheading actions to help preserve it. Today is the 50th anniversary since the initiative began. Unprecedented developments surrounding the recent pandemic have caused many people to re-evaluate their priorities. Without good health little else matters. A paradigm shift is necessary, prioritizing people’s well-being over the obsession of continuous economic growth. Yes, the two are interrelated, however what good is a high level of GDP growth without people being able to access healthcare, afford education, etc. Growth needs to be sustainable without adversely affecting the environment.
