Why Climate Change?

Climate change is transforming the world around us. Phenomena such as the increase of the average temperature, sea level rise and changes in the frequency of climate extremes, such as droughts or flooding, are urgent problems affecting all of humanity. Their full impact is likely to be substantial and increasingly apparent over the years ahead. Yet it is the world’s poorest – those least responsible for these changes – who will be hardest hit by the effects of climate change. The average global temperature has increased by approximately 0.74 degrees in the last century and the temperature keeps rising. As the temperature rises, not only are human beings being affected, but ecological and marine systems around the world are being impacted.

Climate change is increasingly placing pressure on competition for the Earth’s resources leading to migration and population displacement, and even the risk of conflict and war. With this in mind, this conference intends to bring together global youth and provide a place where they can meet and share ideas and opinions on the issue of climate change and linkages with sustainable development, and convey these issues to the attention of the global community.
