Conflict resoultion : which causes? which consequences? Are there any solutions?

Since the end of world wars, the number of conflicts around the world do not increasing. Why such a situation and how to do to heal with? the next debate, organised by Earth Focus Foundation, wishes to find lines of reflection and elements of answers and propose you to take part.

In collaboration with the Graines de Paix assocation and the Geneva School of Diplomacy, this day was organised around two main times :

- morning : reflection workshops supervised by professinnals

- afternoon : workshops results’ presentation and debate

“Olympic Games in China and Human Rights” debate

 

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations declaration of Human Rights and ending the year with the 2008 most important event, the Earth Focus Foudnation organised a student debate, adressing : “What was the impact of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on Human Rights?”.

Date : 10th of December 2008

Participants : Students from following schools : Aga Khan Academies in Mombasa, Geneva School of Diplomacy,College du Leman, La Grande Boissière, Campus des Nations, La Chataigneraie, CEC de Stael

“PEACE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT” DEBATE

For the International Day of Peace on September Earth Focus Foundation has organized a bilingual round table and youth debate whose issue was : “How could the aspects of sustainable development contribute to world peace? “.

Date : 19th September of 2008 - 9 am to 4:30 pm

Participants : Students from following schools : CDL, La Grande Boissière, Collège Volatire, Ecole Haut Lac, ECG Henry-Dunant, CO Golette, CO Montbrillant, CO des Voirets. Almost 500 students were presents.

At the end of the morning, Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier in Soudan, now singer, came to meet students, talk about his story and present his songs.

ARBORETUM VISIT

Human Rights’ and environment debate:

Date: 17th of April 2008

Participants : International school of Geneva - LGB, International School of Geneva - Campus des Nations, College Voltaire, CEC André Chavanne, Aga Khan Academy of Mombasa

 

Context:

For the 60th anniversary of The Universal Declaration on Human Rights adopted, on 10 December 1948 in Paris, the Earth Focus Foundation organises a conference – debate on how to improve the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. The aim of this debate is to know how the declaration could include the new stakes that the worldwide population should face and most of all how its principles could be better know and better implemented all around the world.

Issue of the debate:

In this context, Earth Focus Foundation has taken the opportunity of this anniversary to organise this debate for young people. The issue would be: « should the Universal Declaration of Human Rights be improved and should it include the environment preservation? »

Debate “Animal conservation: setting priorities.”

Date: 15th of April 2008

Participants: College du Leman, International School of geneva - Campus des Nations (french speaking students)

According to the IUCN Red List, there were 16,306 species that were threatened with extinction in 2007. African vultures, Sumatran Orangutans, Western Lowland Gorillas and Yangtze River Dolphins (Baiji) are some species that are on the Red List. Over-exploitation, invasive alien species, pollution and habitat loss or degradation are some examples of the threats that endangered species face .

In this context, Earth Focus Foundation is organizing a debate on ‘Animal Conservation: Setting Priorities’. The aim of the debate is to better understand what are some threats that endangered species are facing, why it is important to protect them and ways we can protect them.
